The income and remittances from Armenian labour migrants to their families back home remain a significant economic factor in socio-economic development of the country even in times of financial crisis. The volume of remittances has continuously increased over 2010-2011. Families in Armenia use these resources mainly to pay utility bills (the cost of which usually doubles in winter) and cover expenses for education and health services, emergencies and big family events, such as a wedding or a funeral.

On September 23, 2009 the Government of the Republic of Armenia (RA) approved the draft proposal of amendments to the law on non-governmental organizations. This resolution triggered an unprecedented cooperation of civil society organizations (CSO) in the country. The common effort had one goal: to cancel the further ratification of the bill and any changes in the law.

In the regions of the country young people are mostly unaware of the course of European integration Armenia has been following for about a decade. They are certain of two things only: Armenia is not an EU-member, and Armenia is implementing a number of reforms because of its aspiration to integrate with Europe. However, both young people and the public in large is essentially ignorant of the outcomes of these reforms. What is peculiar about the current state of affairs is the fact that in Armenia attitudes towards the European Union are largely conditioned by stereotypes.

For the last decade the progress of reforms in water supply systems management, the legal regulation of service provision in water supply and sewerage system, relevant infrastructures, quite recent substantial investments under the auspices of the government, and the water resources of the country are tangible bedrocks for initiating a qualitatively new phase of development within the sector. In 2005-2007 the Armenian government ratified two laws: On the Fundamental Profusions of the National Water Policy, and On the National Water Programme of the Republic of Armenia.

Public health continues to be one of the most complicated sectors in Armenia, in terms of modernization efforts and introduction of new reforms. On one hand, the dynamics of the development of the country's economy and society asks for audacious and innovative solutions. On the other hand, any reform aimed at improving access, availability and quality of provided services within the sector cannot ignore the persisting high poverty rate of the population, insufficient trust towards reforms in transitional societies, and political challenges.

“Green light” for environmentally neutral business development from Lisbon to Vladivostok

On March 3, 2021, the first meeting of the GreenDeal Task Force created under the Initiative Lisbon-Vladivostok was held. In the videoconference format, more than twenty authoritative experts in the field of ecology and business from Austria, Armenia, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Russia, France, as well as the representatives of the largest business industry associations supporting the Initiative Lisbon-Vladivostok, discussed common approaches to harmonizing the activities implemented by the EU and the EAEU on the path to sustainable development, including a radical reduction in greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere by 2050.
