Migration reforms in Armenia to be strengthened thanks to international cooperation

On 9 October 2012 the State Migration Service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration of the Republic of Armenia (SMS), the International Organization for Migration Mission in Armenia (IOM) and the International Center for Human Development NGO (ICHD) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on supporting the implementation of actions envisaged under 2012-2016 Action Plan for Implementation of the Concept for the Policy of State Regulation of Migration in the Republic of Armenia and Concept on Studying and Preventing Irregular Migration Originating from the Republic of Armenia.

Mr. Gagik Yeganyan, the Head of SMS, Mr. Armen Galstyan, Executive Director, ICHD and Mrs. Ilona Ter-Minasyan, the Head of IOM  participated in the signing ceremony. Ambassador Traian Hristea, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia welcomed participants.

In late 2011 the Government of Armenia adopted the Concept for the Policy of State Regulation of Migration in the Republic of Armenia. In parallel with this document, the Government of Armenia adopted the Concept on Studying and Preventing Irregular Migration Originating from the Republic of Armenia. These documents consider reforms in the area of migration management in Armenia and include a number of critical actions, such as supporting efforts to negotiate bilateral labour agreements with partner governments, promoting rights of Armenian migrants and analysis of legislation compliance with EU standards. In addition, an information system for recording of migration flows is envisaged, as well as a public awareness campaign on risks and consequences of irregular migration and opportunities of circular labour migration.

The goals and objectives defined by the Memorandum will be achieved through establishing close cooperation in the frames of an EU funded project on “Strengthening Evidence Based Management of Labor Migration in Armenia” implemented by ICHD and IOM (overall budget: 2,450,000 Euros), “Preventing Irregular Migration from Armenia to the Kingdom of Belgium by Raising Awareness of Potential Migrants” project supported by the Kingdom of Belgium and implemented by the ICHD and “Post Arrival Assistance to Armenian Returnees from the Netherlands” project supported the Repatriation and Departure Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Netherlands and implemented by the ICHD, as well as “Technical Assistance to the Armenian Government to Initiate Labour Migration Arrangements” implemented with the support of IOM. A committee to coordinate actions defined by the Memorandum, as well as a working group on the implementation of actions will be formed with key stakeholders and beneficiaries and experts.

“Green light” for environmentally neutral business development from Lisbon to Vladivostok

On March 3, 2021, the first meeting of the GreenDeal Task Force created under the Initiative Lisbon-Vladivostok was held. In the videoconference format, more than twenty authoritative experts in the field of ecology and business from Austria, Armenia, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Russia, France, as well as the representatives of the largest business industry associations supporting the Initiative Lisbon-Vladivostok, discussed common approaches to harmonizing the activities implemented by the EU and the EAEU on the path to sustainable development, including a radical reduction in greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere by 2050.
