The most recent researches prove that only 46% of the victims of gender-based violence (GBV) tell about the violence to their doctors. Moreover they report the case of violence only if the doctors ask.
Health professionals and police officers play a key role in screening for and treating the consequences of GBV. Female health workers as well as police officers both as professionals and as members of their families may themselves experience GBV. The medical observation and screening results can be used in the court as a proof of GBV. That is why training professionals in these sectors in identifying, treating and responding effectively to GBV is so essential. These professionals are on the frontier of dealing with the victims of GBV.
Over 340 representatives of public service institutions, including police officers, health professionals, municipal servants and local authorities, from all regions of Armenia and Yerevan participated in fifteen two-day trainings on Gender and GBV issues organized and conducted by ICHD. During these trainings professionals improved their knowledge and skills on gender-based violence. They participated in various role plays, watched films and discussed sector-specific case studies on GBV.
On January 30, 2024 ICHD organized the first Town Hall Meeting within ACE in Vayk consolidated community, comprising 17 rural and urban settlements, in close collaboration with the local government, "Solution Hub" NGO and their beneficiaries, active young people from the community. The results are summarized in the THM report available in Armenian only.
