On the 29th of November, 2013 the International Center for Human Development (ICHD) organized one-day workshop on “Agreements on Social Welfare as an instrument of protecting social and labour rights of migrants”.
The workshop was conducted by Iryna Rozka, an expert from the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, who directly has participated in the drafting activities of international agreements on labour migration and portability of social rights between Ukraine and other countries.
It is noteworthy that the Republic of Ukraine is among the first countries in the CIS that has signed agreements with more than two dozen foreign (including European) countries and has a valuable practical experience as a result. The current challenges of signing international agreements on labour migration and social protection of labour migrants, the Ukrainian experience of signing agreements, agreement types, targets and approaches, interests of countries, interstate regulations of work permit issues, as well as practical issues of the agreement between the government of Armenia and the government of Ukraine on “Work and Social Protection of the Citizens of the Republic of Armenia and Ukraine Working Abroad” signed in 1997 were presented and discussed during the workshop.
The representatives of state authorities, civil society and international organizations participated at the event which ensured diversity of ideas and constructive discussion facilitation.
The workshop was of the support of implementation of Memorandum of Cooperation stated activities, signed by RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, ICHD and IOM earlier this year, in the scope of the "Strengthening Evidence-Based Management of Labour Migration" project implemented by ICHD, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with the financial support of the European Union.
On January 30, 2024 ICHD organized the first Town Hall Meeting within ACE in Vayk consolidated community, comprising 17 rural and urban settlements, in close collaboration with the local government, "Solution Hub" NGO and their beneficiaries, active young people from the community. The results are summarized in the THM report available in Armenian only.
