At workshop on policy making on ageing

30.10.2010

ICHD's Christina Sargsyan attended an international workshop on evidence-based policy making on ageing in Chisinau, Moldova on October 27-29. The workshop was organized by the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and was attended by respective policy makers, academic faculty and NGO representatives from the CIS countries. During the workshop the participants shared their experiences on researching the issue of ageing and developing respective policies.

Addressing the issue of ageing is a key aspect of the RA government’s strategy on improvement of the demographic situation in the country. For the last two years with the help of the UNFPA in Armenia it has been actively launching activities aimed at the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPPA). Since ICHD is a key civil society player in policy development initiatives in the country, it has focused on the issue of ageing as well. The first step of ICHD involvement with the issue of ageing was relevant capacity building in this sphere.
